STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF!!
di Catherine Herbertson
There’s an expression you might have heard, just when everything’s getting a bit too much and all you want is some time to stop and have some time to yourself. So, extra time! And what to do with it?
With this in mind we’ve been asking staff, students and teachers what they’ve been up to, whether they’re becoming master bakers, painting gnomes or dreaming of motorbiking around Italy. We also asked what they are most looking forward to doing.
Here’s what they told us:
“Personally, this (smart working) has worked as a huge incentive and, as an example, allowed me to make impressive changes, as completely renouncing to hard copies and papers, after having thought for years that I wouldn’t!”
Antonella
We loved this idea, it streamlines our work and saves trees.
Sara, on having a routine
“Since I realised I would spend days on end inside I thought the more I stick to a daily routine, the less I might feel depressed. It’s important to keep your mind and your body active to stay positive so I try to plan my week as much as I can.
As for after this lockdown, I just know that the first thing I want to do is to meet my family and friends again and have a glass of red wine together!”
Sara dedicates each day to different activities, it works for her so maybe it’s worth a try, after all, nobody wants a week of Mondays…
Simon, on digging up old memories
“I found these old school photos whilst rummaging through a box of my old photos and diaries! I’ve got lots of spare time during this lockdown period. Having more time has encouraged many people to reconnect which is most certainly a positive thing.”

Somebody commented that some of these haircuts would have been best left in the attic!
Anita on her Mom’s homemade pasta
“My mom during the lockdown has tried to made homemade pasta, she is doing it now because she has much more time, by the way she would like to continue doing it even when we came back to our normal routine, but she hasn’t got much time during our normal life.”
That’s the flip side of more time! We’re spending more time cooking..and cleaning our homes, home is where the heart is after all…
Ariana’s family is spending more time together..
“I spend more time with my family and (we) do more things all together like cooking pizza, playing board games. And I hope I will continue to do it when we will go back to the normal routine, so I will spend more time with my dear family.”
Lucia is trying her hand at home baking
“I baked bread with raisins but the result was definitely not the one I was expecting!”

Chiara, on painting garden gnomes and dreams of sailing
“I repainted my garden gnomes! First I wanted to paint the gnomes with the same colors they had before but later I decided to change some colors for getting a better look than before. And now I am very proud of this choice. I’m dreaming of having a little boat trip on the sea, as soon as possible.”
And last but not least, Franca on motorbikes and hugs..until next time folks, take care and we’ll be back next week.
“I want to turn on my motorbike and go to visit Italy …., I want to take my bike to run on the hills, I want to embrace all the people I love!”
