PETER ALFANO
Peter Alfano brings over 35 years of experience in English language teaching and over 16 years as a CELTA tutor and assessor to Oxford School’s CELTA programme. Teaching has included a wide range of teaching contexts (general English, business English, university level academic English, teacher training) in several international locations including Prague, Vienna, Rome, Lyon, Strasbourg, London, Montreal, Vancouver as well as major cities in the U.S. (his home country) and in various face-to-face and online formats. He also briefly served as a language school consultant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Holding a DELTA and Masters in TESOL, Peter is now permanently based in Padova where he is the head teacher trainer for Oxford School and a Cambridge speaking examiner. Hailing from New York City originally with theatre, music and film experience, Peter likes to combine clear, rigorous guidance with a supportive and often personalized approach.
NICK SMITH
Nick Smith took CELTA in 1998 in his home city Leeds, West Yorkshire, and started teaching English at the Oxford School in Mestre the same year. Since then, he’s taught learners with a wide range of ages, backgrounds, levels and objectives, and has had extensive experience as a Cambridge Assessment speaking examiner. His role as director of studies not only sees Nick recruiting teaching staff but also offering whatever support they may need, and overseeing their professional development. He started as a CELTA tutor in 2020 and he endeavours to apply his belief in a learner-centred approach to the teacher training environment.
Outside of teaching, Nick is keen on the visual arts, a music addict and a hopeless bibliophile.
ANDY PARKER
Andy Parker has been providing a fully inclusive, student-centric learning experience to all his EFL teaching since completing his own CELTA in 1996. In addition to general English classes to children, teenagers and adults in northwest Spain, other sectors include Business English (Madrid) and lecturing Academic English at the University of Exeter and Bristol (UK). In addition, he worked as a Director of Studies at a private language school in Bristol which focused on IELTS and Cambridge exam preparation courses before taking over full management.
For most of his career in Italy he has specialised in teaching Cambridge exam preparation for Oxford School Venice and has been a Cambridge speaking examiner since 2012. He most recently joined the Oxford School Padova CELTA team as Assistant Course Tutor (ACT).
When not in the classroom, Andy is also a semi-professional photographer specialising in taking black and white images of urban landscapes.
